Launching 7 December!
Artists, architects, technologists, engineers, musicians, delegates, children, and youth will all join together for the unveiling of the first-of-its-kind digital media art exhibition Launching in Copenhagen on Monday, 7 December at the Tycho Brahe Planetarium. The cube will be up during the COP-15 events (December 7 - December 18), seeking to engage and educate people by making visible the monumental scale of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by human activity.
Do you know what 1 tonne of CO2 looks like?
Photograph: Joshua Brott
Measured and stored at standard atmospheric pressure, carbon dioxide occupies a cube the size of a three-story building: 8.2m x 8.2m x 8.2m (27ft x 27ft x 27ft).
You have to see the size of your CO2 CUBE to believe it! This is the amount of CO2 the average European releases in one month, and the average American releases in just two weeks.
With greenhouse gas emissions being invisible to the human eye, the CO2 CUBES make visible the monumental scale of carbon dioxide being generated, and helps us foster a profound understanding of how we contribute to climate change.
Digital Media Installation
As an influential digital media installation, the CO2 CUBE represents a voice for the world to speak directly to world leaders at the UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen, encouraging them to make the right decisions that embrace sound environmental policies that determine the fate of all of our futures.
The cube as a media delivery system contains 36 channels of separate
video mirror screens that are dynamically reconfigurable. The streams of media
are made up of 2-way live video conferencing, produced videos, real-time data, and a
practically endless supply of interactive & digital information sources
regarding the science, solutions, and dire consequences of continued CO2 emissions,
if policy changes are not made.

Impact
Before people will act on climate change, there has to be a clear understanding connecting them to the cause. Art evokes emotion. Emotion triggers change. The monumental nature of the CO2 CUBES brings a creative and essential component to the international negotiations on climate change…. helping people visualize their CO2 output. The CO2 CUBES are a profound catalyst for positive social change, supporting the Millennium Development Goal of Environmental Sustainability.
